Designing Secret Spaces

with Carbon 6 Interiors

This is a trend we not-so-secretly love! Secret rooms are a unique design twist in your home that has unlimited utility and creativity. We’ve seen these spaces used for function and/or fun!

A secret door can be designed to blend into many different spaces within a home, hidden behind a secret door could be a walk-in pantry, reading nook/ library, children’s playroom, home office, wine cellar, home theater, and the list goes on! Below are a few recently completed secret rooms we’ve designed at Carbon 6 Interiors, all varying in functionality, design style, and custom features!

Secret Room: Kitchen Pantry

This new construction home features a gourmet chef’s kitchen with custom white cabinetry coupled with a black stained quarter-sawn oak shiplap hood and matching island. Once you’ve looked over the Quartz countertops, Thermador appliances, and beautiful matte white subway tile backsplash you will be surprised to find the wall of cabinetry opens to a secret walk-in pantry.

This custom space has all the shelving and storage for your kitchen needs. We especially love this secret feature because it not only is a fun twist on the kitchen’s floor plan but is also practical use of kitchen space.

Secret Room: Home Office

Another functional secret space we worked on recently was this hidden home office. Camouflaged by wall shelving, this doorway leads to a secluded office space where you will find custom navy blue shelving, a large walnut desk and a collection of fun music and art pieces that reflect the homeowner’s personality.

This practical space allows for an easy work-from-home transition and an added bonus of fewer distractions!

Tip: Make sure when you decorate your shelves/doorway you use heavy accessories that won’t fall off easily when the door opens and closes!

Secret Room: Kids Playroom

Lastly, our secret kid’s playroom! We love this unseen doorway disguised by custom rift white oak wall paneling. The unique magnetic door stopper means there is no need for a door handle, giving this room a perfectly concealed look.

Adding a lower level playroom is the perfect design feature when entertaining. A space like this provides kids with a fun secret spot to sit and read, craft, play, dress up and get creative! The built-in custom shelving houses all sorts of items kids love to play with, while still remaining spacious enough for fun floor space activities.

We hope this sparked some fun ideas for your secret space! Please let us know if you have any questions!
